BCA: Overwhelming response was received for this course and over 400 applications were received for this course and 88 students were admitted.

Change of Guard:Prof. M.L.Samaga retired from the college on  31/1/2007 and Prof. Dr. Jayaprakash Mavinakuli took charge as new Principal of the College.

Farewell to our Principal Prof. M.L.Samaga will be held on 31/1/2007 at 3:00 p.m. who will be retiring on the same day at Nuthana Ravindra Mantapa. Sri. K.K.Pai will preside over the function.

Condolence:
Mohammad Jafrulla who was working as attender in the College library for over 33 years expired on 15/12/2006. The scheduled sports meet was postponed  to pay respect to him.

 

Botany Dept. has given details of it, similarly other departments also plan to create links for their departments

B.C.A.:

Overwhelming response received for this course and 225 applications were registered. Still the enquiries are being made for this course. All 55 available seats were filled up.

Few more smaller companies have offered jobs to our students among them the prominent are Real Softech, Softpro, My Computer, Sys Comp, Abhijna Computers and Tutorials etc. 

Progeon: Progeon the BPO of Infosys visited the college on 15th August and 29 of our students were selected and got the offer letters. Three Hundred seventy two students from different colleges in and around Udupi participated in the selection process and in total seventy four students were selected. 

Transworks: Nine students of our college were selected by the company and got  the offer letters in the selection  process held in the college.

Dell Computers: Six students of our college cleared the selection process and received the offer letters.

 

Students have received the invitation from organizations like Infosys, Wipro and Fidelity, Manipal Informatics etc. to appear for their selection process.

1) A Science Fest – GYAN – 2005 comprising competitions and exhibition on 1st, 2nd and 3rd December 2005-Report

2) Sankhya Shastra Shikshana Utsav of Statistics Department on 2nd and 3rd December 2005.

3) Photography training on 4th December 2005.

4) “ART CHIMES” – competition festival university level Arts students on 8th December 2005.

5) State level Physics workshop for College teachers on 9th and 10th December 2005.

6) “MEGA BYTES” – Computer festival on 12th 2005.

7) Annual Vadiraja Kanakadasa Music Festival on 16th, 17th and 18th December 2005.

8) Annual Sports day on 20th December 2005.

9) 21st and 22nd December “SPECTRA” – Annual, Cultural and Academic inter collegiate competitions.

10) 23rd and 24th December – Sahithyothsava day, Founders’ Day, College Day, Valedictory of Co-curricular activities and Old Students Day

All the old students of the MGM college are requested to enroll themselves as members of “MGM College Alumni Forum”.

Activities held in the month of November

1) November 13 –18 Educational tour of Botany and Zoology departments to Kanyakumari and Trivandrum.

2) 14-11-05 – Prof. H.L. Bhat from Indian Institute of Science gave a talk on Lasers.

3) 21-11-05 – Dr. K. P. S. Kamath, U.S.A. had interaction with the college students on Stress Management.

4) A 15-day training programme for students in Aptitude Test and Communication skills and “HOW TO FACE INTERVIEWS” was started on 22nd Nov.

5) On 18-11-2005 Legal Awareness programme was conducted by District Judges.

6) Col. Madhav Shanbhag, Professor, MIM, MAHE, MANIPAL made the students aware of insurgency problems in India on 25-11-05.

7) A unique 2-day orientation programme for neighbouring high school teachers as part of extension activity, by the department of Physics and Chemistry was conducted.

A Report on Vision-Mission Workshop

PTA meeting:

The meeting of the Parent Teachers Association  held on 24/9/2005 at 4:00 p.m. at Nutana Ravindra Mantapa of the College and the response from the parents and teaching community was excellent. Free discussion held between the parents and teachers. Parents were satisfied with the progress made by their children and the effort made by the teachers and management towards attaining high quality in education.

Alumni form:

Executive committee meeting of the Alumni association took place on 21/09/2005 in college. 

Talent Hunt:

A four day Talent Hunt program was conducted in the college. About 150 different items were presented by the students. Students participated in activities like Debate, Group discussions, Singing, Classical dance, Folk dance, Filmy dance etc. The Students who gets selected will be representing the college in different competitions that will be held at different colleges.   

Inauguration:

New Software Lab2 and Internet Center was inaugurated by Sri K.K.Pai, Registrar, Academy of  General education Manipal. Prof. H.N. Udupa, Additional Controller of examinations, Sikkim Manipal University, was the chief guest.

Software lab-2 is equipped with new 30 HP machines and with one server. Like Software lab-1, this new  lab is also fully air conditioned. Thus the Dept. of Computer Science has now 80 computers in it's both the labs.

The new Internet center with five computers is started in the library building. Broad band facility is given to the students. 

Placement:
Hinduja TMT is visited campus for the placement on 21/07/2005. 35 graduates took the opportunity. 

Book Release:

Book titled Computer Learning Made Easy written by Prof. M. Vishwanath Pai, Head Of the Department Computer Science,  is released by Sri K.K. Pai, Registrar Academy of General Education, Manipal. Prof. M.L.Samaga, Principal, MGM College,  Prof. H. Krishna Bhat, Chartered Accountant Mr. K Ganesh Kamath and publisher Mr. T. Ganesh Pai of Bharath Prakashana, Bharath Press, Kalasanka, Udupi were present in the ceremony.

The publishers note says that this book requires no previous computer knowledge, best suited for beginners as well as advanced learners and easy to understand because of illustrative pictures. The topic includes Computer concepts, Windows 98, Windows XP, MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Power Point, MS-Access, Multimedia and Internet.

30 students cleared first round of selection process conducted by VM Business solutions Pvt. Ltd. on 12/05/05.

Autonomy:

MGM College granted autonomous status by University Grants Commission, New Delhi. 

Alumni forum:

Meeting of the MGM College alumni forum was held on 2/04/2005 in the conference hall of the college. Details

Placement:
A recruitment drive is being carried out for the final year students of the college and lot of companies are being approached. Students attended the aptitude tests for the following companies.
* Progeon- Infosys subsidiary- 14 students are selected and going to join as Process executives in June 2005
* Infosys -11 students got selected in Infosys  for the post of Junior Engineers/ Junior test engineers
* iGate - Students appeared for aptitude test for the post for Junior Engineers / Junior test Engineers
Communication is on with many other companies to conduct a recruitment drive.

A new page aptitude.htm is created and linked to our site, which help the students for preparing themselves for Aptitude tests, GD and Interview.

Book Release:
Autobiographical work of late Prof. U.L.Acharya, "Remembering A Bygone Era" was released on 28/01/2005 by Dr. B.M. Hegde (Former Vice-Chancellor MAHE). Prof. B.K.Hegde (Former officer, IIS)was the Chief guest and Sri K.K. Pai, Registrar Academy of general education presided over the function.

This book is published by R.G.Pai Research Center, M.G.M. College Udupi.
